Casey Kelby for Councilmember Ward 3

Election Day is May 7th

Hi, my name is Casey.

I’m your neighbor here in University Park, MD. You might know me as Nova’s mom. I’ve been a resident since 2021 and I love our little town and our larger community. I’m also a plant lover, an aerospace engineer, and a bit of a nerd. I love nature and travel, but believe the best part of every trip is coming home. I want UP to be the place where you enjoy community, peace and quiet, and make memories. Learn more

Vision

  • Effective collaboration across municipalities, community organizations, and committees is vital for fostering holistic development and addressing shared challenges. By pooling resources, expertise, and perspectives, these entities can leverage collective strengths to implement comprehensive solutions that benefit the broader community. Such collaboration enhances the efficiency of public services, promotes information sharing, and encourages innovative approaches to address common issues. Ultimately, a united effort among municipalities, community organizations, and committees creates a more resilient and interconnected community, capable of tackling complex problems and fostering sustainable growth.

  • Preserving our town's tree canopy not only enhances the ecological balance but also nurtures spaces for recreation and well-being. These green areas serve as havens for relaxation, exercise, and community gatherings, fostering a healthier lifestyle for residents. By safeguarding our green spaces, we invest in the physical and mental health of our community, providing a refuge for people to connect with nature and enjoy the plentiful wildlife that also calls University Park home. Protecting these spaces ensures that future generations can continue to reap the social and recreational benefits of a thriving natural landscape.

  • Embarking on community building gains deeper significance as we reclaim activities disrupted by the pandemic. In our pursuit of shared joy, we warmly welcome both new and fellow residents, intertwining them into the fabric of our community. Rediscovering lost connections involves not just revitalizing activities but forming bonds with those who've recently joined our communal journey. Actively engaging both long-time members and newcomers in decision-making ensures a collective stake in shaping the revival of our shared pursuits, fostering a sense of unity and inclusivity in our neighborhood.

  • With a strong sense of duty and a commitment to serving the amazing town that I call home, I firmly believe in the transformative power of transparent and efficient government. For me, it's not just about open decision-making processes and accessible information; it's about actively involving citizens in shaping policies. When a government is clear in its communication, streamlines processes, and embraces technology for effective service delivery, it becomes a true partner in community development. Moreover, I strongly advocate for respectful and professional communication as it builds trust and reinforces the government's commitment to integrity and accountability. In essence, I believe in a government that is not only efficient but also actively engages and respects the citizens it serves.

  • As crime rates rise, it is imperative to prioritize the safety of all residents. Ensuring our town's walkability involves addressing both dangerous driving and potential crime, implementing measures to mitigate both risks. The University Park Police Department plays a pivotal role in maintaining public safety, fostering a sense of security within our town, and provides timely responses to various emergencies and incidents.
